Stuart Crystal Mayonnaise Jug No. 29359 c.1950s

This is a high quality cut lead crystal mayonnaise jug by Stuart Crystal. The jug has a wide body that tapers in towards the ringed neck. The rim is everted and there is a curved pouring spout. The broad handle extends from the neck to about 1.0cm above the base. The body of the jug is cut with two rows of seven interlocking criss-crosses. Above this is a ring of seven leaf-shaped wedge cuts. The base is star cut and marked at the edge with the words ‘STUART ENGLAND’. The lid is of flattened discoid form and has a solid ball knop. This piece can be seen in the 1954 Stuart Crystal catalogue and has the pattern number 29359. It is listed as a ‘mayonnaise jug’. It has a maximum height to the rim of about 10.3cm, with a diameter at the rim of about 5.4cm and across the base of about 7.6cm. It is in excellent condition, with no chips or cracks.
