Sowerby Art Deco Style Moulded Amber Glass Cream Jug
This is a good example of a 1930s moulded glass cream jug by Sowerby.
This is a good example of a 1930s moulded glass cream jug by Sowerby.
The piece has been made in a three-part mould. The body consists of six fluted panels, each of which contains a geometric design of two bands of vertical moulded lines, between which is a triangle containing five further triangles arranged one within the other. The base is discoid with a star ‘cut’ design and stands on three grooved feet. The handle is plain apart from a series of horizontal grooves where the lower part meets the body of the jug.
It has a height of approximately 8.5cm, with a diameter at the rim of about 7.3cm and at the base of about 5.4cm.
It is in excellent condition, with no chips or cracks, although there are a number of enclosed bubbles and some streaking of the pigment. These are manufacturing artefacts.
