This is a set of four stunning, high quality cut lead crystal wine glasses, probably British in origin and dating to between 1820 and 1830.
The trumpet shaped bowl is cut with a series of six petals that taper in as they approach the base of the bowl. There is an unusual tapering knop that is faceted in line with the petals on the bowl; the knop contains a flattened discoid air bubble. Below this is the stem is of baluster form. There is a small discoid collar at the junction of the stem and the plain, flat foot. The latter has a central polished pontil.
Each glass has a height of approximately 12.7cm, with a diameter across the rim of about 5.7cm and across the foot of about 5.6cm. There are minor discrepancies in the dimensions due to the handmade nature of the glasses.
They are in excellent condition, with no chips or cracks, although there is some roughness around the faceted knops. This is pitted in places and would appear to contain minute pieces of frit. I believe that this roughness is a manufacturing artefact.
