This is a moulded West German pottery bottle shaped vase attributable to Scheurich Keramik.
The short neck has an applied handle, which extends down to the ‘shoulder’. The body is cylindrical in shape. The upper part and the interior have been glazed in a dark chocolate brown colour. This then merges with an uneven circumferential band of white glaze, which in turn merges with a stippled light brown glaze at the base.
The base of the vase has an unglazed foot rim, revealing that the underlying ceramic is a pale stone colour. The central portion has the words ‘W-GERMANY’ and what appear to be the figures ‘414-16’ moulded in relief.
From my reading on the subject I gather that the first figure 414 corresponds to the pattern number and the second number, in the case of a vase, refers to the approximate height in centimetres. This would appear to be true in this case.
It has a height of approximately 16.3cm, with a diameter at the rim of about 5.9cm and across the base of about 8.3cm.
It is in excellent condition, with no chips or cracks, although there is one small glaze ‘miss’ on the body.
