Royal Doulton ‘Jimmy Durante’ Design Ceramic Character Jug D.6708
For a full product description, see below.
This is a nice example of a ceramic character jug depicting 'Jimmy Durante', designed by David B. Biggs in 1983 for Royal Doulton.
The piece is depicted as wearing a grey hat with a dark brown band, a light orange jacket, a yellow shirt and a green tie. The handle is in the form of a piano keyboard.
James Francis Durante (1893 – 1980) was an American entertainer who began by playing the piano but it was his singing and clowning that brought him fame in Vaudeville theatre, nightclubs, films, radio and television. He was known by the nickname ‘Schnozzle’ by virtue of his large nose, which he made the subject of many of his jokes.
The base is marked on the underside with the words 'ROYAL DOULTON TABLEWARE LTD 1983 D.6708 THE CELEBRITY COLLECTION BY ROYAL DOULTON A HAND-MADE, HAND-DECORATED SERIES JIMMY DURANTE GOODNIGHT MRS CALABASH, WHEREVER YOU ARE'.
It has a height of approximately 19.0cm.
It is in excellent condition, with no chips or cracks.
