This is a stunning example of a cut lead crystal ships decanter by Royal Doulton.
The decanter has a thickened rim, below which are eight facets that extend down on to the neck and shoulder with rounded lower margins. Between each rounded facet there are three vertical wedge cuts that extend down towards the base, dividing the body up in to eight panels. Each panel is filled with a pattern of raised diamonds that increase in size as they approach the base. The latter is polished in the centre and surrounded by a ring of wedge cuts. It is marked on the polished area with the Royal Doulton crown logo.
The stopper is hexagonal in shape, tapering in to form a faceted waisted neck above the plain peg. The top of the stopper has a central lens cut that is surrounded by small cross cuts.
It has a maximum height (including the stopper) of approximately 25.9cm, with a diameter across the rim of about 5.5cm and across the base of about 20.0cm.
It is in good condition, with no chips or cracks, although there is some faint water marking in the base. Although this is only visible when held up in the light, this wear is reflected in the price.
