This is a high quality cut lead crystal bowl from the ‘Carnegie’ suite by Royal Doulton Crystal.
This is a high quality cut lead crystal bowl from the ‘Carnegie’ suite by Royal Doulton Crystal.
The bowl is made from thick lead crystal and is of squat form, tapering in towards the base. It is cut with ten deep vertical wedge cuts that extend up to just below the rim. Between adjacent wedge cuts there are shorter, wider wedge cuts that taper to a point. These are in matt intaglio, which makes them opaque.
The base has a central polished pontil and is marked with the words ‘ROYAL DOULTON’ surrounding a central crown logo.
It has a height of approximately 11.0cm, with a diameter across the rim of about 15.8cm and a width across the base of about 6.5cm.
It is in good condition, with a few wear and tear scratches to the base, commensurate with use. There is also a tiny nick out of the matt intaglio cutting, as shown in the photograph. This is very minor and is only visible on close inspection. However, this wear is reflected in the price.
