This is a highly attractive example of a handled soup bowl from the 'Nordic' range, designed by Jessie Tait for Midwinter.
The pattern on the bowl consists of alternating vertical bands in blue and brown. The blue bands are formed by stylised flowers and the brown bands are formed by overlapping triangles and diamonds of fine brown stripes. The bowl has broad, flattened spout and a flat tapering handle at ninety degrees to this.
It is marked on the underside in gold with the words ‘NORDIC DESIGN BY JESSIE TAIT MIDWINTER ENGLAND’.
It has a maximum height of approximately 7.0cm, with a diameter across the rim of about 11.7cm and across the base of about 9.5cm.
It is in good condition, with no chips or cracks, although there is some crazing to the glaze.
