This is a striking soup cup and matching saucer set from the ‘Caprice’ suite by Midwinter.
The soup cup is approximately cylindrical, with a thickened rim. There are two round handles on opposing sides of the cup. The whole is glazed in a pale speckled grey and is transfer printed with a psychedelic stylised floral design in blue, purple, green and teal. The rim is decorated with a green stripe.
The underside is moulded with the words ‘MIDWINTER MADE IN ENGLAND’.
The saucer is flat with a raised everted rim. There is a broad central ring for placement of the soup cup. The saucer is decorated in a similar way to the cup, with a band of stylised leaves in the same style as those on the cup. They are bordered above and below by a band of green.
The underside is stamped with the words ‘STONEHENGE MIDWINTER MADE IN ENGLAND’. ‘Stonehenge’ is the name of the shape used. ‘Caprice’ is the name of the applied pattern.
The soup cup has a height of approximately 5.8cm, with a diameter across the rim of about 11.8cm and across the base of about 10.5cm. The saucer has a diameter across the rim of about 17.4cm.
They are in excellent condition, with no chips or cracks.
