This is a classic Whitefriars design dating to the 1960s.
The bowl has three sides, the shape of which is frequently referred to as ‘tricorn’. The bowl tapers in from the rim towards the thickened, rounded base. This is flat and has a central polished pontil on the underside.
It is made from blue glass cased in a thick layer of flint (clear) glass.
This bowl has the pattern number 9516 and can be found on page 13 of the 1964 Whitefriars catalogue. This is the smaller of the two sizes available, at 5 ½” across.
It has a maximum height of approximately 6.4cm and a width across the rim of 14.1cm.
It has an unwrapped weight of 560g.
It is in good condition, with no chips or cracks, although there are numerous scratches to the interior of the bowl, which was very hard to capture with the camera but the price reflects this wear.
