This is an uncommon example of a large glass bowl designed between 1957 and 1959 by Geoffrey Baxter for Whitefriars Glass.
The bowl is approximately tricorn-shaped (three-sided) and tapers in towards the thickened, rounded base. The latter has a central polished pontil. It is made from flint-encased green glass, which was in use for a couple of years in the mid-1960s.
The bowl has the pattern number 9525 and can be seen on page 13 of the 1964 Whitefriars catalogue.
It has a height of approximately 12.2cm and a width across the rim of about 23.8cm. The base has a diameter of 6.6cm.
It has an unwrapped weight of 1860g.
It is in good condition, although there are numerous scratches to the interior of the base commensurate with use. There is also the odd scratch and one small nick to the glass (see photographs). This wear is to be expected but is reflected in the price.
