This is a charming example of a crystal sculpture produced by Wedgwood Crystal for Danbury Mint.
The plaque is made from solid lead crystal with a slight yellow tinge. The back is deeply moulded and sand-etched with the image of a heron flanked by bulrushes.
The base is polished flat and marked with the words ‘WEDGWOOD CRYSTAL’ surrounding the central Danbury Mint ‘D/M’ logo.
The ‘Wedgwood Bird Crystals’ were produced for the Danbury Mint’s mail-order customers. They proved difficult to produce as they stuck to the moulds and were hard to remove.
It has a height of approximately 12.1cm, with a maximum width of 9.5cm and a maximum depth of 3.3cm.
It has an unwrapped weight of 610g.
It is in good condition, with no chips or cracks, although there are a few scratches to the front which are visible on close inspection. This wear is reflected in the price.
