This is a highly sought-after claret wine glass from the earlier edition of the ‘Royal Tara’ suite produced by Waterford Crystal.
The bowl has a slightly everted rim and is cut with eight long facets, with a curved upper part and a triangular lower portion. Below this are two rows of facet cuts, forming a honeycomb pattern. The base of the bowl is cut with six petal-shaped facets. The stem is formed from bulbous knop above two waisted sections, all of which have been facet cut.
The base of the stem is cut with six facets which continue onto the stem as small petals. The top of the foot is then cut around the edge with eight pentagonal facets.
The foot has a central polished pontil and is marked with the word ‘WATERFORD’.
Please note: This particular glass was made between 1966 and 2003. This design varies slightly from the modern Royal Tara in that the cutting on the foot is not continuous with cutting at the lower part of the stem.
It has a height of approximately 15.8cm, with a diameter across the rim of about 8.2cm and across the foot of about 7.9cm.
It has a liquid capacity (to the brim) of 145ml.
It has an unwrapped weight of 340g.
It is in excellent condition, with no chips or cracks.
