This is a set of six high-quality lead crystal dessert dishes from the ‘Woodchester’ suite produced by Stuart Crystal.
Each bowl has a pan-shaped upper portion, with a thickened and stepped base. This then merges with the short, tapering stem, which sits on a plain, flat foot. The latter is unmarked.
The bowl is decorated with six stylised ferns in a cut matte intaglio finish.
The bowls are shown in the 1954 Stuart Crystal catalogue under the heading ‘Sweet Dishes’ with the number ‘27861’. This is the pattern number for the Woodchester design.
Each bowl has a height of approximately 9.1cm, with a diameter across the rim of about 10.2cm and across the foot of about 7.0cm. There are some differences in height and conformation, which I have shown in the pictures.
They have an unwrapped weight of 1620g.
They are in good condition, with no chips or cracks, although there are some wear and tear scratches commensurate with age and use. There are also some enclosed bubbles and pieces of frit, which may be the reason that they are unmarked.
