This is a set of six classic ‘Greek Key’ design sherry glasses dating to the latter quarter of the 19th century.
The elongated cylindrical bowl tapers in and meets the plain, straight stem at a discoid collar. It is machine-etched around the centre with a ‘Greek Key’ design, bordered above and below by a pair of overlapping zig-zag lines. The foot is plain and polished flat, although a couple of glasses bear the remains of a central Y-shaped tool mark.
Each glass has a height of approximately 11.2cm, with a diameter across the rim of about 4.4cm and across the foot of about 5.2cm.
Each glass has a liquid capacity (to the brim) of 50ml.
They have an unwrapped weight of 380g.
They are in excellent condition, with no chips or cracks, although there may be the odd wear and tear scratch commensurate with the age of the glass. There are also some blemishes and flaws within the design, which are manufacturing artefacts and to be expected from such mass-produced items of this age.
