This is a set of six vintage coffee cups and saucers by the well-known Staffordshire pottery company of John Beswick.
Each cup is broadly cylindrical, tapering in slightly towards the stepped base. The handle is angular. The interior of the cups is glazed in off-white, and the exterior is glazed in a muted grey-green shade. The underside of each cup is marked with the words ‘BESWICK ENGLAND’ arranged in a ring.
Each saucer has a central cup ring and sweeps upwards in a steep curve towards the rim. They are glazed in a muted grey-green shade on the top, and off-white on the underside. The underside of each saucer is marked in the same way as the cups.
Each cup has a height of approximately 8.4cm, with a diameter across the rim of about 7.5cm and across the base of about 5.4cm. Each saucer has a diameter across the rim of about 14.6cm.
Each cup has a liquid capacity (to the brim) of 225ml.
They have a combined unwrapped weight of 1760g.
They are in excellent condition, with no chips or cracks, although there is some crazing to the glaze in places.
