This is a set of four good-quality cut lead crystal brandy balloons from the ‘Georgian’ range by Webb Corbett for Royal Doulton.
Each balloon-shaped bowl is decorated with nine repeating fan cuts, each situated above a large cross-cut, with a small cross-cut within the diamond shape formed by two adjacent large crosses. Below this is a series of nine concave oval cuts just above the base of the bowl.
The plain stem is short and tapering. The foot is plain and marked in the centre with the crown logo and the words ‘ROYAL DOULTON ENGLAND’.
In addition, all four glasses bear the original white paper label, which reads ‘THE ONLY GENUINE ENGLISH ‘GEORGIAN’. Two of the glasses bear the silver and blue label, which reads ‘ROYAL DOULTON CRYSTAL BY WEBB CORBETT’.
Each glass has a height of approximately 12.2cm, with a diameter across the rim of about 6.0cm and across the foot of about 6.5cm. There may be minor discrepancies in the dimensions due to the handmade nature of the glasses.
Each glass has a liquid capacity (to the brim) of 325ml.
They have an unwrapped weight of 990g.
They are in excellent condition, with no chips or cracks, although one of the glasses has a pronounced pontil on the underside, just beneath the mark. This means that the glass has a slight wobble when sat on a flat surface. This flaw did not seem to affect the grading, as it is still marked as ‘first’ quality.
