This is a pair of high-quality cut lead crystal hock wine glasses from the ‘Normandy’ suite by Thomas Webb.
The rounded bowl is cut with a continuous band of deep wedge cuts. Beneath these is a pattern consisting of chequered diamonds. The lower part of the bowl is cut with six facets, which continue downwards onto the elongated stem. There is a small collar at the junction of the stem and foot. The latter is marked at the edge with ‘WEBB ENGLAND’. This particular mark was in use from 1950 to 1966.
Each glass has a height of approximately 17.0cm, with a diameter across the rim of about 7.6cm and across the foot of about 7.4cm. There are minor discrepancies in the dimensions and confirmation due to the handmade nature of the glasses.
Each glass has a liquid capacity of around 190ml.
They have an unwrapped weight of 480g.
They are in excellent condition, with no chips or cracks, although there may be the odd wear and tear scratch to the bowl and foot. One stem is slightly thicker than the other; this is due to its handmade nature.
