This is a pair of high-quality cut lead crystal brandy glasses from the lesser-known Olde English Crystal Company.
The balloon-shaped bowl is cut with a circumferential ring of printie or lens cuts just below the rim that have been overcut above and below by a band of leaf-shaped mitre cuts.
Just below the centre is a ring of eight large crosses, the upper and lower limbs of which come into close approximation. Within the diamond-shaped panel formed between adjacent crosses is a lattice of diamonds in relief. Above the centre of each cross is a three-pointed fan cut, and below the centre is a horizontal oval cut.
There is a broad discoid attachment at the junction of the bowl and the short, tapering stem. The foot is star-cut in the centre and unmarked.
One glass bears the original blue and gold sticker, which reads ‘OLDE ENGLISH CRYSTAL HAND MADE IN ENGLAND’ around a shield containing three lions passant.
Each glass has a height of approximately 11.6cm, with a diameter across the rim of about 5.8cm and across the foot of about 6.6cm.
Each glass has a liquid capacity (to the brim) of 250ml.
They have an unwrapped weight of 570g.
They are in excellent condition, with no chips or cracks.
