This is a nice example of a pair of mass-produced glass rummers, probably dating to about 1880.
The rummers have been made in a three-part mould. The design consists of a vertical panel, made up of a large olive above four squares in relief, and bordered on either side by a deep groove. This design repeats nine times in total around the bowl. The stem is of low baluster form and is moulded with six ‘facets’. The foot is plain and bears three mould lines.
Each glass has a height of approximately 14.4cm, with a diameter across the rim of about 8.8cm and across the foot of about 8.1cm. There are some minor differences in the dimensions due to their mass-produced nature.
The liquid capacity to the brim of each glass is around 300ml.
They have an unwrapped weight of 940g.
They are in good condition, with no chips or cracks, although there are some inclusions in the glass in the form of enclosed bubbles, striations and pieces of frit.
