This is a pair of utilitarian soda glass sherry or small wine glasses dating to about 1880.
The rounded bowl is engraved below the rim with a band of stylised laurel leaves. Below this are two rows of six eight-pointed star cuts, each row being staggered with respect to the next. There is a discoid collar at the junction of the bowl and the plain, straight stem. There is a further collar at the junction of the stem and the plain, flat foot. The latter is polished and unmarked.
Each glass has a height of approximately 11.7cm, with a diameter across the rim of about 4.6cm and across one foot of 5.0cm and the other 5.5cm.
Each glass has a liquid capacity of 58ml.
They have an unwrapped weight of 150g.
They are in excellent condition, with no chips or cracks, although there are some manufacturing flaws to the glass, including stippling at the foot, the outline of a burst bubble at the edge of one foot, and an inclusion on the inside of one of the bowls (see photos). These flaws are to be expected from such mass-produced glasses.
