This is a pair of high-quality lead crystal small wine glasses from the ‘Skye’ suite produced by Edinburgh Crystal.
The rounded bowl is cut around the centre with a band of three large crosses. The diamond-shaped panel formed between adjacent crosses contains a lattice of fine diamonds. Above the centre of each large cross is a thick vertical wedge cut, flanked by fine curved lines. These meet adjacent curved lines to form an arch. The stem and foot are plain. The latter is marked with the words ‘EDINBURGH SCOTLAND’.
In addition, each glass bears the original diamond-shaped purple and silver labels, which read ‘EDINBURGH CRYSTAL’ and are surmounted by the lion rampant motif. One glass also has a label on the foot which reads ‘QUALITY CRYSTAL FROM SCOTLAND’.
This size of wine glass is referred to in the Edinburgh Crystal catalogue as a ‘Wine Glass’. The size is the smallest of three produced in this range, increasing to ‘Large Wine Glass’ and the biggest ‘Goblet’ size.
Each glass has a height of approximately 18.1cm, with a diameter across the rim of about 6.3cm and across the foot of about 6.1cm.
Each glass has a liquid capacity (to the brim) of 175ml.
They have an unwrapped weight of 390g.
They are in excellent condition, with no chips or cracks.
