This is a pair of high-quality lead crystal dessert dishes, designed by Frank Thrower in 1978 for Dartington Glass.
Each dish has an everted rim and a short, ogee-shaped body which merges with the tapering stem. This sits on a plain, flat foot. The latter is unmarked.
The dishes come in their original black Dartington Glass box, which is quite worn around the edges. The box bears the label ‘Slightly Imperfect’ on the base, which would suggest these may be of ‘seconds’ quality.
These sundae dishes have the pattern number FT230 and were only in production from 1979 until 1985.
Each dish has a height of approximately 8.1cm, with a diameter across the rim of about 10.2cm and across the foot of about 7.4cm. There are some minor differences in the dimensions due to their handmade nature.
They have an unwrapped weight (including the box) of 590g.
They are in excellent condition, with no chips or cracks, although there is the odd enclosed bubble in the glass, which is a manufacturing artefact.
