This is a lovely simple example of a high-quality cranberry glass jug dating to about 1870.
The jug is approximately cylindrical in shape, widening out towards the thickened base. The rim is plain, with a small pinched spout on the side opposite the handle. The latter is made from thick flint glass, is positioned centrally on the body and has a thickened lower attachment. The base of the jug is plain, flat and unmarked.
It has a maximum height of approximately 18.4cm, with a diameter across the rim of about 8.7cm and across the base of about 11.8cm.
It has a liquid capacity (to just beneath the spout) of 1250ml.
It has an unwrapped weight of 630g.
It is in excellent condition, with no chips or cracks, although there are some notches in the rim where it has been unevenly cut during the manufacturing process. These are smooth and do not detract from the piece in any way.
