This is a highly attractive lead crystal ale glass, maker unknown but dating to around 1850.
The glass has an elongated tapering bowl which is decorated in the lower half with a series of ten petal cuts. Just below the rim, it is crudely hand-engraved with the name ‘F ORAM’, which is underlined with pairs of vertical and horizontal lines.
The short stem is waisted, with a broad discoid attachment at the junction with the broad, discoid foot. The latter has a central polished pontil.
It has a height of approximately 18.6cm, with a diameter across the rim of about 7.5cm and across the foot of about 8.5cm.
It has a liquid capacity (to the brim) of 275ml.
It has an unwrapped weight of 350g.
It is in good condition, with no chips or cracks, although there are numerous fine wear and tear scratches to the bowl and foot, and some scratches to the interior associated with more abrasive cleaning methods. Although this is only visible on close inspection, this wear is reflected in the price. There is also an air bubble enclosed within the foot (see photos), which is a manufacturing artefact.
