This is a striking, high-quality lead crystal flower vase from the ‘Bristol’ suite produced by Saint Louis of France in the third quarter of the 20th century.
The vase is a classic urn shape, with an everted rim, a short, waisted neck and an ovoid body. It is cut below the rim with ten elongated facets. A further ten large facets appear on the lower part of the body, tapering in as they approach the base.
The body sits on a thick, discoid base, which is polished in the centre and marked with a circle containing the words ‘CRISTAL ST. LOUIS FRANCE’. There is an etched dot outside the circle, below the C in ‘France’.
The vase comes in the original cardboard box, which has a marbled exterior. It is printed in gold on the front with ‘VERRERIES ROYALES DE ST. LOUIS’ and the logo, as well as ‘SAINT LOUIS FRANCE 1586’. The box is unlined.
It has a height of approximately 23.7cm, with a diameter across the rim of about 12.8cm and across the foot of about 10.0cm.
It has an unwrapped weight (excluding the box) of 1690g.
It is in excellent condition, with no chips or cracks. The box does have some wear around the edge, including a tear down one corner of the lid (see pictures).
