This is a nice example of a novelty cream jug by Beswick depicting Mr Micawber from Charles Dickens’ ‘David Copperfield’.
Micawber’s green hat forms the rim of the jug. A stylised angular walking cane forms the handle. The lower part is formed by the collar of Micawber’s red jacket and his starched white shirt collar.
The interior and the base are white. The latter is impressed in the centre with the words ‘BESWICK ENGLAND 674 MICAWBER’.
It has a height of approximately 8.5cm.
It has an unwrapped weight of 140g.
It is in excellent condition, with no chips or cracks, although there is a cooling mark on the side of the handle, which would have occurred during the manufacturing process.
