This is an attractive example of a retro ceramic side plate from the ‘Samoa’ range produced by Alfred Meakin of Staffordshire.
The design consists of a bold floral motif in monochromatic linear form. The rim is encircled with a wide black band.
The underside of the plate has a transfer printed maker’s mark, which reads ‘SAMOA IRONSTONE BY ALFRED MEAKIN STAFFORDSHIRE ENGLAND A HAND ENGRAVED PATTERN APPLIED UNDER THE GLAZE DETERGENT AND ACID RESISTING COLOUR’.
It has a diameter across the rim of approximately 17.4cm.
It has an unwrapped weight of 210g.
It is in excellent condition, with no chips or cracks, although there are a few very minor glaze scratches on the upper surface that are commensurate with use.
