This is a stunning example of an Art Deco glass bowl produced by Nazeing Glass of Broxbourne, Hertfordshire, during the 1930s.
The bowl has a broad, everted rim that tapers into the short, rounded body. The base is flat and has a central polished pontil with a matte finish.
The piece has been made in a striking dark pink shade flecked with white, with a cloudy, bubbled effect, and encased in clear glass. There are also some purple patches through it.
The working drawing showing this piece can be seen on page 83 of the book ‘A Celebration of Nazeing Glass Works 1928-2003′ by Geoffrey C. Timberlake. This particular size of bowl, with a diameter of 9 ½”, has the code ’86/1’.
The bowl has a maximum height of approximately 6.9cm, with a diameter across the rim of about 24.4cm and across the base of about 9.5cm.
It has an unwrapped weight of 630g.
It is in excellent condition, with no chips or cracks, although there are a few wear and tear scratches to the base commensurate with age.
