This is a pair of early Vasart miniature posy vases. Vasart Studio glass was produced by the Ysart family and production began in September 1946. The Ysarts were Spaniards domiciled in Scotland. The name came from their initials – ‘V’ from Vincent, ‘A’ from Augustine and ‘S’ from Salvador, together with ‘art’ from Ysart. These vases conform to the common Vasart colour scheme, with a lighter shade at the bottom of the piece and a darker shade towards the top. At the junction of these two colours, swirls were added in one or more contrasting colours. In the early years the Ysarts often used pieces of cane around the centre of vases where the upper and lower colours met. These canes often appear as splashes of colour. The pink colouration continues about half way up the vases, where it gives way to a mottled purple. There are numerous multicoloured random oval splashes of colour, particularly in the transition zone. The rim flares out to a trumpet shape. The vases have a flattened bulbous base, which is pink but encased in clear, purple tinted glass. The bases are not completely polished out but have a patchy roughness. On one the base is slightly hollowed out towards the centre. The other has more obvious remains of a pontil. They are both unsigned. One vase has a height of approximately 10.5cm, with a diameter at the rim of about 6.7cm and at the base of about 5.1cm. The second vase has a height of approximately 10.7cm and a diameter at the rim of about 6.9cm (the wall of the rim is slightly thicker than that of the first vase) and at the base of about 5.0cm. Although offered as a pair, these vases are similar but not identical as each piece was individual and unique. They are in excellent condition, with no chips or cracks.
