This is a stunning pair of lead crystal wine decanters, probably dating to about 1880.

The elongated neck has been moulded to form six vertical ‘panels’, which are stepped. The rim is cut with a continuous ring of diamond shaped facets. There is a plain discoid portion below the junction of the neck and flattened globular body. Below this the decanter is elaborately engraved with a grapevine and tendril design, alternating with bunches of grapes formed by lens cuts. The base of the decanter has been moulded with a series of radiating petal shapes.

The stopper is hollow blown with a flat hexagonal top. There are rounded facets extending down from each side of the hexagon onto the upper part of the peg. There is an alternating design of vine leaves and plain panels.

Each decanter has a height of approximately 26.8cm. The body has a diameter of approximately 15.0cm. There are minor discrepancies in the dimensions due to the handmade nature of the pieces.

They are in good condition, although there are a few tiny nicks within the design and some on the stopper. These are only discernible on the closest of scrutiny and are to be expected from pieces of this age.
