Nicholas Hillyard Axminster Pottery Bowl with Colourful Abstract Design
For a full product description, see below.
This is a highly individualistic hand thrown studio pottery bowl by Nicholas Hillyard of Axminster Pottery.
The rim is slightly thickened and turned over. The outside of the bowl is decorated with a continuous abstract pattern of freehand overlapping triangles and curved motifs, resembling clouds. These are in brown, over a patchy background of white, green, blue and yellow. The interior of the bowl is glazed in a mottled brown colour.
There is a raised foot rim, which is unglazed on its lower surface, revealing the underlying ceramic body to be terracotta in colour. Within the central glazed portion, there is a monogram, which has been either faintly impressed or scratched into the surface. It consists of a conjoined ‘N’ and ‘H’.
It has a height of approximately 8.0cm, with a diameter across the rim of about 17.0cm and across the base of about 8.4cm.
It is in excellent condition, with no chips or cracks.
