This is a nice example of a pickle jar, probably Continental in origin and dating to the 1950s.
The pickle jar has an ovoid body and sits on a discoid base. The body is cut with a stylised floral design, consisting of five olive cuts surrounded by stylised leaves. Below this are three elongated needle cuts, each with an olive cut at the end. Between each floral motif is a diamond of four olive cuts. There is a short neck and a flattened galleried rim.
The stopper is hollow, with a flattened discoid upper portion. This is cut around the edge with a stylised laurel wreath design. The peg is ground for close fitting with the neck.
It has a maximum height (including the lid) of approximately 16.0cm, with a diameter across the rim of about 7.5cm and across the base of about 5.5cm.
It is in excellent condition, with no chips or cracks.
