This is a nice example of a cut glass water jug, probably Czechoslovakian in origin and dating to the 1950s.
This is a nice example of a cut glass water jug, probably Czechoslovakian in origin and dating to the 1950s.
The jug has a bulbous body that sits on a thickened discoid base. This is star cut and unmarked. The body is cut with a band of criss-crosses, each containing an eight-pointed star. Below alternate stars is a vertical wedge cut with stylised leaves. The neck widens out to form the rim; this is notched around the edge and has a small pouring spout. The hand is attached at the rim and extends down to the ‘shoulder’.
It has a height of approximately 15.6cm, with a diameter across the rim of about 13.0cm and across the base of about 10.2cm.
It is in excellent condition, with no chips or cracks, although there may be a few wear and tear scratches to the body and base.
