Product Description

Details

This is a stunning example of a glass flower vase, probably British in origin and dating to around 1860.

The vase is of classic form, with a wide everted rim that tapers in to meet the urn-shaped body. This then sits on a discoid plinth-like base. The whole is made from white glass that has a fine layer of blue applied to it around the centre. This has then been hand decorated with a stylised convolvulus motif around the shoulder in white, green and pink. There is a band of gilding around the rim; below the rim are concentric rings of gilding. These are echoed above and around the base, where there are also three concentric rings of blue on the foot. The underside of the foot has a broad polished pontil and is unmarked.

It has a height of approximately 29.9cm, with a diameter across the rim of about 10.3cm and across the foot of about 8.0cm.

It is in excellent condition, with no chips or cracks, although there is significant wear to the gilding around the rim and base. This is unsurprising considering the vase is over 150 years old.
