This is a highly attractive lead crystal brandy glass by Metropolitan Glass and dating to the latter part of the 20th century.
The glass has an unusually shaped angular bowl, with a narrow rim that widens out to just above the base and then tapers back in again, merging imperceptibly with the short waisted stem. This then merges with the plain, flat foot. The bowl is cut with circumferential zig-zag band, the upper and lower margins of which cross over each other.
The glass bears the remains of the original sticker, which reads ‘MCG ENGLISH HANDCUT’. This sticker is attributable to Metropolitan Crystal Glass Ltd. A subsidiary of S. Dornberger, a glass import company based in London, Metropolitan was founded in 1955 but the business was dissolved in 2005 by S. Dornberger.
It has a height of approximately 12.3cm, with a diameter across the rim of about 5.9cm and across the foot of about 7.6cm.
It is in excellent condition, with no chips or cracks.
