Lidded Art Pottery Trinket Holder with Thistle Motif by Humfrey Wakefield
For a full product description, see below.
This is a highly attractive art pottery trinket holder made by Humfrey Wakefield.
Humfrey Wakefield did a two week course in pottery and then built his own wheel in 1955. He worked from his father’s property on the Isles of Scilly with his wife Helena, an artist. He continued potting until his death in 2010.
The base is approximately cylindrical, tapering in to the discoid base. It is glazed on the interior in a speckled cream. The exterior is glazed in a mottled brown and cream, with darker patches around the rim. The lid is approximately cylindrical with a domed top. This is decorated with a central stylised thistle design that is highlighted in cream and picked out in mottled brown.
The underside of the base is stamped in the centre in blue with the words ‘MADE BY HAND HW ISLES OF SCILLY’. In addition, the piece bears the original black and gold sticker.
It has a maximum height of approximately 6.0cm, with a diameter across the lid of about 11.0cm, and across the base of about 9.3cm.
It is in excellent condition, with no chips or cracks.
