This is a good quality lead crystal pickle jar, probably dating to the late 19th century.
The body is broadly cylindrical and is cut with a series of ten vertical wedge cuts, which extend from the shoulder to the base, dividing the body into ten panels. The panels are cut alternately with a series of eight horizontal thumb cuts and a plain panel, topped with a single vertical thumb cut. The base is plain and polished flat. There is a rounded shoulder and a short neck, which has been ground on the inside to allow tight fitting of the stopper, and a wide rim. The hollow stopper has a central star cut on the top; the edge has a ring of olive cuts. The stopper has a ground neck.
The height including the stopper is approximately 15.0cm, with a diameter at the base of about 6.3cm.
It is in excellent condition, with no chips or cracks, although there are a few surface scratches to the body.
