Late Victorian Large Cranberry Glass Jug with Flint Glass Handle c.1870
For a full product description, see below.
This is a lovely simple example of a high quality ‘cranberry’ glass jug, probably British in origin and dating to about 1870.
The jug is approximately cylindrical in shape, widening out towards the thickened base. The rim is plain, with a small pinched spout on the side opposite the handle. The latter is made from thick flint glass, is positioned centrally on the body and has a thickened lower attachment. The base of the jug is plain, flat and unmarked. There is a central polished pontil.
It has a height of 18.8cm, with a diameter across the rim of about 9.3cm and across the base of about 11.3cm.
It is in excellent condition, with no chips or cracks, although there are some enclosed bubbles and striations in the glass, which are a result of the manufacturing process. In addition, there are some wear and tear scratches to the body and base that are commensurate with age.
