Details

This is a large classic example of a late 19th century coloured glass 'thorn' vase, probably dating to around 1880.

The elongated body tapers towards the base and then curls round on itself. The vase has six vertical ridges, making the rim hexagonal in form. Each of these ridges has a series of protrusions. The vase sits on an applied green glass base, which has five ‘knobbly’ feet made from glass rods. These were roughly snapped off during manufacture and were not polished out. The base fluoresces under UV light, which suggests that it contains traces of uranium.

It has a maximum height of approximately 31.0cm.

It is in good condition, with no chips or cracks, although there is some smooth flake out of one of the thorns which appears to be a burst bubble.
