Product Description

This is a fine example of a high-quality lead crystal pan wine glass, maker unknown but dating to around 1890.

The pan-shaped bowl has been beautifully cut and wheel engraved with a complex swag motif formed from multiple dots. On one side there is a circular cartouche, within which is an elaborate ‘LL’ monogram surmounted by a coronet. This coronet has five ‘pearls’ and four strawberry leaves; this is attributable to an Earl. There is a further ring of matte dots above the base of the bowl. There is a discoid collar at the junction of the bowl and the elongated cylindrical stem. There is a further collar at the junction of the stem and the foot. The latter has a central polished pontil and is engraved with a ring of larger matte dots.

Although it is difficult to attribute some monograms, a similar motif has been documented as used by William Lygon, 7th Earl Beauchamp. The ‘LL’ monogram can be seen on the cover of the Madresfield Court visitors’ book.

It has a height of approximately 11.4cm, with a diameter across the rim of about 7.3cm and across the foot of about 6.9cm.

It is in excellent condition, with no chips or cracks.
