This is a classic example of a vanity bottle dating to the late 19th century.

The bottle is cylindrical in form with a polished base. The body is cut with ten facets which have curved upper and lower margins. The rim is galleried to allow for close fitting of the lid.

The lid is made from a silver coloured metal and is unmarked.

Pieces such as this can be seen labelled as ‘toilet water bottles’, ‘perfume bottles’, and even ‘hatpin cases'.

It has a height (including the lid) of approximately 16.5cm, with a diameter across the rim of about 3.5cm and across the base of about 3.5cm.

It is in good condition, with some minor nicks to the inner rim where the lid has been removed and replaced over time, as well as to the edges of the cut panels.
