Large Late Victorian Plain Bowled ‘Pub’ Rummer c.1870
For a full product description, see below.
This is a classic example of a large utilitarian glass rummer, probably British in origin and dating to around 1870.
The rummer has a capacious bowl that tapers in towards the thickened base. There is a bladed knop at the junction of the bowl and the plain, cylindrical stem. There is a globular discoid portion at the junction of the stem and the plain, flat foot. The latter bears the remains of a central ‘Y’ shaped tool mark.
It has a height of approximately 15.4cm, with a diameter across the rim of about 7.3cm and across the foot of about the same.
It is in good condition, with no chips or cracks, although there are a few wear and tear scratches to the glass, commensurate with age. In addition, there is a smooth blemish at the rim that could be mistaken for a chip. It is a manufacturing artefact and is to be expected in such a mass-produced piece. However, this flaw is reflected in the price.
