Large Fishley Holland Posy Vase with Leaf Design
For a full product description, see below.
This is a classic example of a Fishley Holland posy vase.
The posy is of flattened globular form, tapering in slightly towards the base. It is glazed in a mottled grey with five large leaf-shaped panels hand painted on the sides. There is an incised foliate motif within each large leaf. Between adjacent leaves is an incised vertical wavy line, surmounted by a triangle formed from nine raised dots of slip.
The top of the posy has a central circular hole, encircled by a ring of six triangular shaped holes; between each of these are three small circular holes.
The interior is washed in pale blue glaze.
The base is washed with glaze but reveals that the underlying ceramic body is terracotta in colour. It is incised in the centre with the letters ‘FH’.
It has a maximum height of approximately 12.3cm and a maximum diameter of approximately 14.5cm.
It is in excellent condition, with no chips or cracks.
