This is a stunning example of a cranberry glass light shade dating to the Art Nouveau period.
The shade has a short galleried rim and a broad sloping shoulder, before tapering in slightly above the flared hexagonal base. The shoulder is etched with a ring of stylised flowers and foliage. The edge of the shoulder has been etched with a matte band. The lower hexagonal portion is machine etched with four sprigs of stylised flowers and foliage. The edge of the shade is horizontally ribbed.
The body is made from cranberry glass and has a soft vertical ribbed effect, more commonly known as ‘optic’.
It has a maximum height of approximately 16.1cm, with a diameter across the rim of about 9.9cm and a maximum width of about 20.9cm.
It is in excellent condition, with no chips or cracks, although there are a couple of wear and tear scratches to the edges, commensurate with the age of the piece. The edge of the rim is rough as it should have a metal fitting for attachment to the ceiling. This is NOT included in this sale.
