This is a good example of a handmade Honiton pottery jug, probably dating to the 1930s.
The jug sits on a small discoid base and has a globular body, with a short waisted neck and everted rim and pouring spout. The latter is decorated with a series of dark blue dots. The handle is strap-like and decorated with one short blue stripe at the top and a longer one below. The main body of the design consists of a panel of brightly coloured arcs, which overlap and are border above and below by two pairs of circumferential lines in black. The upper pair is continuous with a series of black triangles, which partly fill the space formed where the arcs overlap.
The base is incised with the number ‘29’ and the words ‘HONITON ENGLAND’.
It has a height of approximately 9.7cm, with a diameter at the rim of about 8.2cm and across the base of about 6.2cm.
It is in excellent condition, with no chips or cracks.
