This is a striking piece of retro 1970s kitchenalia from the ‘Reflections’ range by Franciscan.
The teapot has a slightly everted rim with an approximately cylindrical body that widens out as it approaches the base, where it ‘steps in’ slightly. The handle is attached below the rim and is angular. The spout is short and sits in line with the rim. The body is glazed in a dark speckled green-brown shade. The base is impressed on the underside with the words ‘FRANCISCAN ENGLAND’ and the number ‘5014/1’. In addition, it is stamped in black with the letter ‘S’.
The lid is discoid in shape, tapering in towards the thick discoid knop. The lower part of the lid is glazed in speckled beige. There is a ring of cream glaze bordered with brown near the edge. The apex is glazed with various ‘blobs’ in shades of green, teal, yellow and brown.
The teapot has a maximum height (including the lid) of approximately 20.0cm, with a diameter across the rim of about 10.5cm and across the base of about 9.4cm.
It is in good condition, with no chips or cracks, although there are a couple of scratches to the glaze on the body. These are commensurate with the age of the piece and are only visible on close inspection.
