This is an unusual early 20th century chemist’s bottle.
The bottle is cylindrical in shape, with a rounded shoulder, a short neck which is ground to allow close fitting of the stopper, and a flattened rim. The stopper has a round tapering peg and discoid top. This is moulded with the words ‘PATENT NO. 117403’. The base is plain and moulded with the number ‘10’.
The body bears an the original paper label, which reads ‘TINCT. GENT. CO. B.P.’
‘TINCT. GENT. CO. B.P.’ probably refers to a preparation of the plant Gentian. This was a popular homeopathic remedy for a diverse range of ailments, including fever, diarrhoea and sore throats.
The bottle has a maximum height of approximately 15.8cm and a diameter at the base of about 6.3cm.
It is in excellent condition, with no chips or cracks.
