This is a nice example of an early 20th century stoneware hot bottle.

The hot water bottle is approximately loaf-shaped with a flattened base and ends. One end has a mushroom-shaped knop on a short neck; the end is glazed in brown. The front is moulded with a central foliate design surrounding the raised brown screw cap. This is lined with rubber, although this has dried and perished over time.

The base is unglazed, revealing the underlying ceramic body to be beige in colour. It is unmarked.

It has a maximum height of approximately 26.4cm and a width of about 10.7cm.

It is in fair condition for its age, although there are two very old chips to the body, and two glaze flaws. This wear is to be expected from such a utilitarian item but is reflected in the price.
