This is a stunning example of a high quality cut lead crystal water jug, probably British in origin and dating to the first half of the 20th century.
This is a stunning example of a high quality cut lead crystal water jug, probably British in origin and dating to the first half of the 20th century.
The jug has a rounded body that tapers in to form a cylindrical neck. The whole is moulded with a vertical ribbed effect that is overcut with a lattice of raised diamonds around the centre. The neck is cut with two horizontal wedge cuts that are topped with two bands of diagonal wedge cuts, one on either side of the spout. The rim is cut with two bands of deep semi-circular notches.
The handle is attached below the rim, looping up and then attaching about halfway down the body. The whole sits on a discoid foot that is star cut and unmarked.
It has a height of approximately 16.4cm, with a diameter across the rim of about 8.5cm and across the base of about 8.6cm.
It is in excellent condition, with no chips or cracks, although there are a few wear and tear scratches to the body and base commensurate with the age of the piece. There is also a dimple on the edge of the foot; this is a tool mark from the manufacturing process.
